Nick Asselta took more lobbyist gifts than any other state legislator.
Nick Asselta has been hosted at fancy restaurants, four-star hotels and a luxurious golf resort. In 2005, he accepted more lobbyist gifts than any other legislator in the state and he’s been among the top recipients for a number of years. Meanwhile, Asselta’s leaving himself a golden parachute. As he opposed efforts that would make it harder for former legislators to become lobbyists, Asselta compared legislators-turned-lobbyists to athletes who become TV commentators.

Nick Asselta wined and dined lobbyists at an exclusive island resort – in exchange for campaign cash.
Asselta held a campaign fundraiser for his big donors at an exclusive resort in Puerto Rico, treating them to golf, entertainment and dinners in exchange for their contributions to his campaign. The Star-Ledger describes the trip in detail, “Asselta and a dozen backers flew to Rio Mar Beach Resort and Golf Club in Puerto Rico in January for three days of golf on sunny courses that skirt both ocean and mountains…. Why such lengths for a few thousand dollars? ‘We try to give the contributors more of a bang for their buck,’ Asselta said.”

Asselta was caught lying about
Jeff Van Drew's
record on
taxes.
Nick Asselta is attacking Jeff Van Drew
to distract us from the truth. From The Press of Atlantic City: "
- "The facts: The major claim of [Asselta's] ad is false. Van Drew and Albano were two of eight Democrats to vote against a sales tax increase."

And now Asselta has a new best bud, Michael Donohue -- who already holds four government jobs.
Michael Donohue gets paid to serve as a government lawyer in several towns at the same time. Donohue even pocketed more than half a million dollars in taxpayer money from these jobs. On top of that, he maintains a lucrative private law practice. But four isn’t enough. Now Donohue wants a fifth public job.
